Vilhelm 7 is a hotel, boarding house and residental building at once. Political immigrants were once sheltered behind the facade that was reconstructed in 1898.

These immigrants were Protestant religious refugees during the period of the 16th to the 18th century. The "Old Fritz" , Friedrich II. of Prussia, was well aware of the economic advantage resulting from this stream of refugees.

All religions are equal and good if the people practise these religions in a good manner and if they are honest people, and if the Turks and pagans would come here and would try to populate the region, we would build mosques and churches for them.

The economically quite well-off workers, creatives and craftsmen of this that time brought a huge amount of knowledge and prosperity to Berlin. This led to the first cotton- and calico printing factory under the leadership of the bohemian entrepreneur Ostry in Germany, Wilhelmstrasse 7.
After his death, the building went to the Bohemian Brethren who opened a "Knäbgenschule" , a boys' school here. Where once Bohemian immigrants lived and boys raged, today a carefully renovated and lovingly styled boarding and residential building in the classic style of the period can be found.
